Posturing Political Pantomime

Another beautiful day after a minus reading last night and we are on the road again, ready to explore. We park near Old Parliament House and walk through the parks to the National Art Gallery to catch up with some oldies like Blue Poles and Sydney Nolan’s Ned Kelly Series and onto some newer acquisitions and postmodern impressionists. Some brilliant and some leave us wondering. I suppose that's what art is supposed to do.

A short stroll to the National Portrait Gallery and a new exhibition based on surfing in the 70's and 80's and Tracks magazine. Remember tight jeans, bell bottoms and long hair, made me smile. Half my school friends could have been the subject matter. A nice connection with Byron, Angourie and Possum Creek up our way now.

We trekked up Mt Ainslie again and the perfect weather just added to the view all the way across the city to New Parliament House. Walter Burley Griffin and his wife were well before their time.

Lunch on the water near the National Museum feeding the birds and then we gear up for Parliament House.

We visited yesterday and did the tour, checked out how the courtyards have grown since last year, sat in on the Senate for half an hour and listened to them harangue each other for a while but couldn't get into the House of Reps. We spoke to a nice guide who said we could book tickets for the next day. So that's what we did. Ross is quite excited.

So back we went, picked up our tickets and waited to enter the chamber for question time. We had centre seats, so could see both sides clearly. They drifted in as the hour approached, Joe Hockey as if he owned the joint and then Bronnie started proceedings. It started seriously with an update by Tony Abbott on Iraq and then followed up with some more on immigration, refugees, the pension, and lots of yelling and carrying on resulting in one section 94 and a tirade by Barnaby Joyce. Bronwyn Bishop sounded like an old school marm trying to control the masses and Julie Bishop spoke really well as did Tony Bourke and Anthony Albanese. We were in there for an hour and a half all up. Really don't know how they get anything done with all the carrying on they do,
