Welcome to Scotland. Well we landed at Glasgow airport and got upgraded with the car to a Mazda 6 - red of course - very flash. Headed to our airbnb house, a small one bedroom cottage just out of the city - two minutes to the Commonwealth Games Swimming Pool and Celtic Stadium. Lots of St Johnstone and Dundee United fans out in the streets getting ready for the Scottish FA cup finals. So we thought to get tea and head home and watch on tv.
Into the city the next morning - the most confusing city full of random one way streets and dead ends - first time close to a disagreement between the driver and the map reader. GPS to the rescue and we were back on track.
Into the University sector - beautiful old buildings, green belts, museums, art galleries, universities and bowling greens. Landed at the Kelvin Grove Museum/ Art Gallery where we saw some Salvador Dali, weird art installations and Glasgow artists.
The West End area is really nice, old, green and trendy. Then we wandered to the Maritime Museum through a few back streets - if they think they're ready for the Commonwealth Games in a few weeks - they better start the cleanup - rubbish everywhere! Down to the Museum and we can see the Armadillo building - looks very modern as does the Maritime Museum. Brilliant Museum and because it's Sunday there are families and kids everywhere - good to see.
Back to the Kelvin Grove Museum and it's next to the Glasgow Bowling Greens - practise for the Commonwealth Games - the Wales team and maybe the Indians having practice. Ross is impressed.
Into the city centre for real and we find parking a nightmare - finally find a park and then hit "the Lighthouse" an architecture and design place. - check out the models James - a few hours in these - they did the whole centre of the city. Ross loves the toilet sign - typical.
Wander the streets and there are buskers and people everywhere - quite a vibrant town. A funny mixture of young and old, modern and historical, pristine and rubbishy. There are parts that are quite grotty and others that are clean and tidy. We are wearing out, so again we head back home and an early night
