Belfast Bombers

We land in Belfast to our beautiful little flat in Holywood, next to the church yard and with a walled garden and lovely trees. Victoria, our host is delightful and has left us some eggs from her chooks. It's nice to have a small kitchen, so it's vegetables again for tea and fruit and muesli for breakfast. Daisy the spaniel puppy is also gorgeous. Holywood is a couple of k outside Belfast and has a village feel with lots of nice cafes and shops as well as the sea and beautiful gardens.

Into Belfast we visit the Titanic Museum with a guided tour - interesting and informative; thoroughly enjoyable.

The following day we headed in by bus after Ross has chatted up the old ladies at the bus stop. We check out the restaurant Ox recommended by Ruby and James, looks a bit posh for us, but it's not open as yet. On to the town hall were there is an international food festival marketplace and the town hall is spectacular.

We decided to go the hop on hop off bus route and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of buildings, history and interesting places to see. The commentary was good and we saw so much more than we could have on foot. The two company touts fought over our business and we ended up paying a lot less than advertised. Always a good thing.

The tour included Falls Road and Shankhill Road and we were surprised that the peace wall division was not only still in place but that the gates between the predominantly Catholic and predominantly Protestant areas are still shut each night. We also saw some of the peace and protest murals being redone by one of the most famous artists with a decidedly political bent. The bus guide was very impressed to see him at work.

Home to write up the blog and have dinner and a wine. We head to Dublin tomorrow and we will then fly on to Scotland. We will miss this beautiful island, an island with 40 Shades of Green.
