We are heading down the East Coast of Ireland and a pretty place it is. Often the unexpected small town where we stop for a cuppa or toilet stop or a walk in the park that captures the imagination. Ruined castles, cathedrals and bridges along rivers and streams with horses, sheep, deer, rabbits and friendly terriers all in the emerald green landscape. No wonder the Irish wax lyrical about their landscape.
Inistioge is our first stop of the day. Check out the scenery.
On to Waterford where we walked around the Viking Triangle of Ireland's oldest city. Visited Reginald's Tower and Waterford Crystal where Ross got his hands on the Irish Open Golf Cup and Toni loved the Lismore Crystal.
After lunch it was into Cork, where we stayed at Belvedere Lodge on the edge of the city and we had our first real rain in Ireland. The next day we headed into the city which is quite the bustling multicultural metropolis, with markets and open areas, squares, the river, beautiful buildings and a really nice feel to it. We both rated Cork as a really nice place to visit.
On to County Kerry and Kilarney is our next stop. Very touristy especially on a long weekend with a rev-head car rally and a marathon on. We walked out to Ross Castle from our BnB and then the long way back into town through the woods and along a beautiful river. Passed the jaunting carriages that are part of the town history and take tourists for trips out to the castle and into town. Interesting to see Clydesdales in and out of the traffic.
After 6 hours of walking today we watched tv and had an early night. Boy did we sleep well.
