Raffles Magic

After an afternoon snooze we headed to the iconic Raffles Hotel a half hour walk away and wandered its verandah sand gardens for a peek at the famous tourist spot. It's obviously built for the climate and the wide verandas and  garden courtyards are cool and quiet. They had the only water features running as the city has switched of water for the drought.

The Hotel is full of shops (expensive and exclusive) and restaurants and cafes - high tea anyone?  They let anyone in (obviously; they let us wander freely). We saw a beautiful bride getting photos and a world press photo exhibition on the wide verandahs. Very different, the world press was confronting, violence, abuse, war and death alongside beauty, sport and nature.

All round our trip was about 3 hours - home to bed weary and footsore
