Singapore Travels

Up and about after another breakfast spread. We have learned that after breakfast you just pick up an apple and a muffin and there's lunch covered. Everyone seems to be doing it and the staff didn't seem to mind either. Back stretches and we are off to the Museum and then a walk to Orchard Road - a very upmarket road full of shopping malls, police and embassies. Many of the buildings have vertical gardens and we check out a design exhibition in the parks. The shopping street, whilst beautiful is not really our thing, so it's a long walk - been there done that and then out again. We aren't big shoppers at any time.

Singapore is a lovely city, a huge variety of sectors, cultures, people, religions and traditions. You turn one corner and it's all high tech and then another and you are in narrow lanes with small shops, hawkers markets and colourful characters. The old and new seem to work so well together. Universally we have found the people to be polite and helpful and interested in tourists.

Up early and out to the airport for an early morning flight - everything went to plan, drop our bags, through customs, play with the high tech photo booths, check out the gardens, catch a train to another terminal to see the butterfly garden and back - just in time to load and head out. Sat next to a Scottish soccer dude on the first leg, could hardly understand him, although the dozen beers he drank on the way didn't help. But he was quiet and happy so no problems and an older Muslim man who read the Koran all the way on the second leg. We ran into a really nice guy who works in the ski fields in NZ and who has just trained in alternate medicine in India - could fit into Byron and Mullum without a hitch. Ross stood down the back and chatted to him for ages.

The flights were good as was the food and Emirates are definitely good to travel with. Caught the bus to Coventry and then Alan and Maria's son picked us up and dropped us home. 25 hours and then into bed about 11 o'clock. Sweet dreams - actually none at all - too buggered.
